Halo is... well let’s put it this way. If you have an XBox, but you don’t have Halo,
you’re an idiot. Halo is not only the best game currently on the XBox, it’s the best
first person shooter on any console. Enemy and ally AI are almost unparalleled by any
other game. The graphics have been known to make gamers drool. Cinematics are long and
spectacular and the reality effect is to die for.
You play as the Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced super soldier who has been
trained for just about anything. Far in the future, humans have expanded far across
space. One day all contact from the colony Harvest is lost. A team of ships is
dispatched to examine the problem, only one returned. The Covenant had arrived.
A group of alien races known as the Covenant united under religious belief,
declaring a full scale jihad against humanity. The Covenant swept across the galaxy,
exterminating everything human. In a final desperate stand above the planet Reach,
the last ship in the armada, the Pillar of Autumn, makes a blind jump across the
reaches of space to a mysterious ring world. Now your combat training begins.
While on Halo, you’ll encounter strange foes, fight epic battles and learn the

You will encounter many different aliens, each one with a different rank and trait.
Here's a quick rundown...
In Halo you can only carry two weapons. Many say this detracts from the game, but in fact, it actually adds to the realism. Eight additional grenades may be carried. The realism of Halo is great, but it lacks the environmental damage effect, which was first explored in earlier shooter games. In Halo you will learn that each of these weapons has its advantages. Each one has its ups and downs. Remember, each weapon has a melee attack for pointblank combat. The power of the melee attack differs from gun to gun.
Halo is vast. You’ll need to use vehicles sooner or later.
One thing that many people will love is that there aren’t any bosses in Halo. It just gets harder as you proceed. There are only ten levels in Halo, but they are extremely expansive. Within each level, there are five smaller ones. Each main level can take up to about two and a half hours. One thing that makes Halo really stand out is the ability to hijack vehicles, human or Covenant. A few missions require that you drive a jeep or a tank. You will realize that vehicle areas are some of the best parts. The AI is superb. Each enemy will respond in a different way to a situation. They will provide cover for each other while they advance on your position. When near death, your enemies may throw a grenade or go aggro and rush you, swiping their weapons at you. The intelligence of your fellow soldiers is also marvelous. They provide cover for each other and work as a team. When there are many aliens nearby, one of your teammates will throw a grenade. While in combat, your fellow marines will shout out random curses and phrases such as, "Crap I’m hit" or "Who’s your daddy?" When you hop into a jeep, one will come and ride shotgun and another will man the turret.
The learning curve for Halo is relatively short as long as your hands are large enough to hold the massive XBox controller. However, every button and trigger has a purpose on the controller, so it may take some time before memorizing the controls. Halo’s difficulty ranges from easy to legendary. Easy is for grandmas and three-year olds. Normal is the standard setting. Heroic is for those who know the game inside and out. Legendary is just plain suicide.
Halo has been rated M by ESRB for violence, blood and a little profanity. Most don’t believe cinematics are very important, but in Halo, you need to watch them. If you don’t, how will you understand what’s happening around you? Halo has a sophisticated plot, so watch the damn cinematics! Halo’s soundtrack is incredibly advanced. The music changes according to your situation. When you’re in considerable peril, the tempo gets fast and intense. When you’re in a dark area with no one around, it plays like something you’d hear in Silent Hill. All in all, Halo is a great game and it shouldn’t be missed by anyone. If you have or want an XBox, Halo is a must. |
