   Soundtrack Review

Music Review.
By: Guillaume Hebert (isolder@videotron.ca)

Having not played the game a single minute, all the themes were unknown to me, still they are very good and unique. The total duration of the CD is quite normal with forty-three minutes of non-stop innovative arranged music. The whole thing explore themes, the same way Xenogears Creid did some time ago.

My favorite track is number three, entitled "Freedom Again." This soft and mellow track is played entirely on what seems to be a panpipes flute. This track is nothing special just plain good. You have to listen to it to fully understand what I mean.

As I said in the introduction, the rythms and intruments used are not something that we are quite used to in term of an arranged soundtrack. Some kind of exotic drums along with many diffenrent kinds of flute accompany some vocal singing.

Some of the tracks take the listener by suprise. In fact, it overwhelms you like a tidal wave. I mean here a piece has a good introduction, then out of nowhere, without any transition or whatever, a great number of intruments completely different from each other, not like a duo of violin and cello or something like that, but lively drums and flute along with light vocals surface. A good example of this is track number four, "Daily Carnival."

Track number nine, "Let's Climb that Hill," is also one of the most interesting pieces of this album. Accoustic guitar all over the piece. A solid, steady rythm like the one that can be heard in the General Teo McDohl and hero house in the first Gendo Suikoden soundtrack.

A funny thing is that parts of pieces appearing in the First Suikoden game were used in this album. The hardcore gamer with a lot of memory will spot them as soon as he hears the first two or three notes. So Orrizonte is a very good album that dosen't have important flaws with a Middle Eastern oriented taste that is new and fresh like the Celtic style used in Xenogears Creid. You should get this one at your earliest opportunity. That's what I did!
