   Soundtrack Review

Music Review.

A really good jazz style album. The composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, offers us the major Chrono Trigger themes with a new approach; ambient jazz style that give a new life to the whole thing. Personally, I've rediscovered Chrono Trigger music with this arranged CD after my interest faded away from the Chrono Trigger series.

The first track, "Chrono Trigger," begins in a very unusual and funny way; someone coming in and then the collage that is the first track truly begins. No mistakes here, the Chrono Trigger theme is really revisited and remixed in a weird but good way.

The "End of Time" theme that on the CD is named "The Brink of Time," along with the "Secret of Forest," are my two favorites on the ten track album. First, "End of Time" because of the overall simplicity of it. With the little clarinet playing along with the bass and drum in typical jazz. "Secret of Forest" also sounds similar, so this is why they are my two favorites pieces on the album.

The worst two tracks on the album are "Warlock Battle" and "World Revolution." I personnaly find "Warlock Battle" boring because of the mediocre arrangments and that more than annoying electric guitar that is sometimes all over the place. The saxophone is really good though. I dislike "World Revolution" because it's way too lively compared to the album in general and that misplaced high-pitched instrument in the opening piece, and what about the ending piece? Well, let's just say that it leaves the listener unprepared for the next piece that is smooth.

So far, "Chrono Trigger - The Brink of Time" is impressive, but with a few misplaced shots. This is the result when you are trying too hard to impress the listener, when you try to break the album line. But lets stay focused. It's not because of two songs that the album is crappy, this is a one-piece judgement. "Chrono Trigger - The Brink of Time" is just a good album when you want to relax.
