Music Review.

When the game hit the shelves, it was a instant best seller because of Working Designs' reputation with the Lunar games. But the first thing that every player noticed was that the game was difficult, tailored to the Japanease style, hard and frustating. Hopefully the score was here to save the day.

Alundra is what I call a "second generation" game for the PSX in terms of music. High quality synthetizer music that was introduced by Wild Arms - to a lesser degree of course - after shabby attempts by early games and prior games that boast digital recorded music like Final Fantasy VII.

The score adheres closely to the game. The Inoa village calm and mellow track gives you the picture of a village that is now peaceful, but on the brink of chaos with the arrival of Alundra. The dungeon theme does the job of painting a dark and oscure place with incoming dangers roaming all over the place. The Lizardman's lair also achieves this goal.

The ending theme is also very interesting. I first heard it when I listened to the CD. I did not finish Alundra. The ending theme is really refreshing because it does a clear break of style from the rest of the album. Using a light J-Pop style with vocals. this just awakens you from "Reflecting" (the track before the ending) that is the save screen theme.

If there is one bad thing about the Alundra OST, it's about the themes used to present the "Gods" that often speak to Alundra through the game. Their themes are without passion and rather mechanical and boring. So sside of that, Alundra OST should be on any list, this one is just too good.
