   Soundtrack Review

Final Fantasy X OST tracklist released!
taken from: Gaming Intelligence Agency

Character themes to return; other story and summon details revealed. Heavy spoilers.

Sony's official Japanese PlayStation site recently posted the tracklist to the forthcoming Final Fantasy X soundtrack. The listing was soon pulled from the site however. For the Japanese tracklist, click here.

The listing reveals that character themes will be included in Final Fantasy X, as in all the other Final Fantasies except VIII. Many more plot details are revealed, including some new summoned creatures. Be warned that these are extreme spoilers; the fact that the tracklist was quickly removed from the PlayStation site should make it obvious that the list may give away key parts of the game. View at your own risk.

For a full analysis of the new details revealed, keep scrolling down. Again, we must warn you that this list contains a very detailed look at the game's chronology, villains, and summon monsters. Please exercise caution when discussing these details, as many other fans will have chosen not to view them.

The promised "Song of Prayer" track appears in several places. Versions of the track appear to correspond to the various Aeon summons: Valfor, Ifrit, Ixion, Shiva, and Bahamut, in that order. Bahamut and Ixion are new additions to the Final Fantasy X summon roster; while the inclusion of series mainstay Bahamut is no surprise, Ixion is a brand new summon hailing from Greek myth. Many more variations appear on Disc 4: Bodyguard, Lonzo Family, Yunalesca, Spira, and Anima. Not all of these may be summons, however, and it's possible there are non-story related summons without Song of Prayer variants.

The tracklisting also gives a rough chronology of some of the game's events: A visit to some underwater ruins, an encounter with the Al Bhed tribe, the Beside Island sequence seen in the Tokyo Game Show demo, Operation Mi'ihen, Yuna and Seymour's wedding, the song "Suteki da ne," and a battle with Seymour. (As revealed on PlayOnline, Operation Mi'ihen is a joint attack against Sin by the cannons of Cid and Rikku's Al Bhed tribe, an army of armored chocobos, and Seymour's Ebon summoners.)

One new character name is also revealed: Jekt (tenative translation), who has a theme track appearing at the beginning of Disc Three. Finally, the title of FF X's Chocobo tune has been confirmed as "Brass de Chocobo." (PG Editor's Note: The Soundtrack is slated for an August 2001 release and I managed to obtain my limited edition copy from Asahiya in Little Tokyo on August 3rd.)
