COMMENTARY BY PHOENIX GENESIS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
PG: What was the first game you ever played?
Space Invaders! Before that, I was a hardcore Dungeons and
Dragons fanatic and I still love manga and comic books, so
it was logical that I fell into video games.
PG: What was your first system you owned?
I played my cousin Eric's Atari 2600. Then I migrated to the
dark realm of video game arcades. Many, many years later, I
came back to gaming with a Playstation.
PG: How did you get interested in gaming?
How could I not be interested? It's the ultimate adventure.
You can control your environment, escape into worlds unknown in
other art forms. But it was Final Fantasy 7 which sucked me in
and has never let me escape the world of video games. Thanks
Squaresoft! Now if I could take a break from slaving away at
this website to actually play some games....
PG: What games gave you that heartpounding feeling?
Ah, where do I begin? LOL! There's just too many. The Final
Fantasy series tugs at the heart strings... Silent Hill could
give me a heart attack with its mastery of the horror genre,
and SSX Snowboarding is the ultimate adrenaline rush!
PG: What was the first RPG you ever played?
What else but Final Fantasy 7. Then Final Fantasy 8, then I managed
to Squeeze in Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, and it was right
back to Final Fantasy 9. Is it any wonder this site has become a
shrine to the Gods of Squaresoft?!
PG: Which RPG really grabbed you?
All the Final Fantasies grab me, even the earlier ones I've toyed
with, but if I had to choose I would say Final Fantasy 7 as it
was the first one I played and the most comprehensive.
PG: What "closet systems" do you still own?
Well, I've gone retro, so I now own a Sega Saturn and a SNES.
I do own the original NES Final Fantasy and Metal Gear as I
can play them on my cousin Eric's system. I don't need to own
all the old systems as he's an old school annex!
PG: What are your favorite old school series?
Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and Space Invaders. Favorite
old school arcade classics include Defender, Galaxians, and
Pac Man. Favorite old MAC games would be Tetris and Shanghai.
PG: What are your current home console sytems?
A modified Playstation, a modified import Sega Saturn, a domestic
Sega Saturn, a SNES, a Sega Dreamcast, a first gen PS2, and my PC.
Of all of them, the Playstation has probably gotten the most use
followed by my Playstation 2.
PG: What are your favorite Playstation games?
Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9, The Legend of Dragoon, Threads of
Fate, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid. For
PS2 games, I would have to say SSX Snowboarding, The Bouncer
(hey, I actually like the game!), and Onimusha Warlords.
PG: What were your worst Playstation experiences?
I try not to have them. Hahaha! Hmmm... I hated Monster Rancher.
I spent all this time raising this stupid creature and it actually
flunked obedience school. I scolded it and it ran away for a month!
Needless to say, I returned the game. Now I've wised up and I let
Dave buy all the lemons first.
PG: What systems are you anticipating buying?
Well, after the flood of new consoles flaunted at this year's E3,
I hate to admit that I won't be buying anything new in the future.
However, I do have my eyes set on a N64 so I can finish Zelda,
Banjo-Kazooie, and Donkey Kong 64.
