INTERVIEW BY PHOENIX GENESIS EDITOR
PG: What was the first game you ever played?
Pong... on the Pong System. Just thought it was really cool to
control things on the screen... this was a revolutionary concept.
PG: What was your first system you owned?
The Atari 2600. I loved that system actually. Ms. Pacman, Donkey
Kong, Mario Bros. and Haunted House were my favorites.
PG: How did you get interested in gaming?
I think it was written into my DNA genetic code. It was love at
first sight. It was something I'd never seen before... another
world to explore and to live in.
PG: What games did you live in the most?
For the Nintendo, it would have to be Mike Tyson's Punchout. At the
time, it had the best graphics I ever saw and good controls. Being
able to see the guy's face when you hit him was great. Another game
I really got into was Chrono Trigger because the story was really
inspirational. It was the classic RPG of kids up against a huge
villain who kicked its ass.
PG: What was the first RPG you ever played?
Definitely Dragon Warrior. It something I'd never played before.
It was really exciting building up levels and experience. It
always gave me something to play for everytime I turned it on.
The world was really big (boy, getting to level 65 was a pain!).
PG: Which RPG really grabbed you?
Final Fantasy III because the story was the best I had ever seen.
There were a lot of characters in your party. The cool part was
that each one had a tie-in with the ending boss. This really gave
the game the ump to kick the final boss's ass. You really had a
sense of group unity.
PG: What "closet systems" do you still own?
Closet systems? I play them all, dammit!!! The oldest system I still
own is the GameBoy. I used to own everything from an Atari 2600 to
a Sega Genesis to Gamegear to Super Nintendo. I sold them all though
because I was young and foolish.
PG: What are your favorite old school series?
Zelda, Mario Brothers, and Final Fight, a side-scrolling beat 'em
up game which helped me take out my frustrations.
PG: What are your current home console sytems?
Nintendo 64, Playstation, and Dreamcast.
PG: What are your favorite Playstation games?
My all-time favorite would have to be Final Fantasy VII. My
second would be Chrono Cross. My third would be Resident Evil 2.
Each one to me broke new ground in their genre... not including
endless hours of gameplay.
PG: What were your worst gaming experiences?
That's hard for me to say as I only remember the good ones. Oh,
as to the demos, there's too many bad ones to list. Overall, most
Playstation games suck. There's just that 10 percent which really
shine. As to Dreamcast, Blue Stinger was probably one of the
worst rip-off clones of Resident Evil and they didn't even make
it right. There was this karate game called Karate Champ
which in the arcade was really cool, but on the NES was really,
really awful. The game taught me a valuable lesson in console
games: consoles are nowhere near as powerful as arcade machines...
up until now that is.
PG: What systems are you anticipating buying?
PS2 which I already paid off! I preordered Smuggler's Run, Ridge
Racer V, Madden NFL 2001, and SSX Snowboarding. Then, when it
finally comes out, the Nintendo GameCube is my next in line.
I have to own every new system on launch!!!
